But Chris isn’t just a Godsend for the club music industry… he’s also answering prayers for dance fans starved of a new male idol. “I am so very proud to be one of the few male singers,” he says of the genre. “There have been others… Byron Stingly, D Train, Sylvester… and I am proud to pay homage to them. With what’s happening with me, I think you’re going to find that we’re going to close the gap between the plethora of female divas the miniscule number of male divos. So get ready!”

Ready as ever. But what about Willis’ gospel fanbase? Are they willing to accept their favorite choirboy as the voice of choice for more liberal devotees?

“I don’t think the gospel scene at large has really had it hit them yet,” he says of his musical exploration. “I’m not sure what their reactions are going to be… but I’m a very happy person right now. Thanks to the internet and the digital marketplace, it’s highly capable for an artist that started in one genre to move in and out of different genres. Case in point: Aretha Franklin, in her hey day, did a gospel album. I have some great inspiration to follow. I say, ‘I’m having a party, I’m having a great time… all those who want to join, come on!”

Besides, given the fervent devotion that dance fans have to the club scene, Chris sometimes wonders if he’s wandered all that far from his days of Praise:

“I went from one church… to another church!”

TRIVIA:

Chris’ favorite way to unwind is to kick back for a silver screen treat with Turner Classic Movies. His fave? Befitting a Divo of the highest order, it’s “All About Eve!”

Music isn’t his only art form: Chris originally went to school for fashion design.

Chris calls dance diva (and collaborator) Ultra Nate “a sister figure” to him. And since both singers are Pisces, theirs is obviously a match-up made in the stars!

The first album Chris ever bought was Cyndi Lauper “True Colors.”

Muy caliente… Chris provided backing vocals for Ricky Martin on his album Sound Loaded.

He’s got an artistic voice… and an artistic eye, too! Chris calls himself an “avid shutterbug” who loves taking pictures wherever he goes.
