Whatever the ultimate decision, Flexible is bound to recapture the club success of Jason’s debut album This is My Life. If anything, this disc is far more personal than his debut album, with Jason using the music as a cathartic experience; many of the songs discuss personal heartbreak that the artist is still working through on his own terms. It’s a chance for Jason’s fans to get to know him on deeper, more intimate level than previously possible. Still, despite the confessional nature of the album, there’s at least one piece of trivia that Jason would prefer to keep under wraps: “I’m not very flexible, to be honest,” he kids with a laugh. “And if you put that in there, I will KICK YO’ ASS!” Don’t worry, Jason. Judging by the way you worked those ice cubes, we’re sure flexibilility is hardly a problem.JASON ON… … his idol, Kristine W. “I was 15 or 16 years old when I discovered her. It was right when Land of the Living came out and I’ve been her #1 fan ever since. If anyone tries to challenge me on that, I’ll cut a bitch! The influence that woman had… she’s been so pivotal to me, personally. We’ve met each other on a few different occasions, and to meet her was even better because she’s a really sweet lady. She’s very genuine and humble and she’s just a normal person. She’s classy. Bitch has it together!” … the real meaning of Flexible. “It kind of represents the collection as a whole. There’s a lot of different kind of music. There’s dance tempo, R&B, pop, it’s very well rounded. There’s really something for everyone, but they all blend together well. The tracks move in and out of one another nicely and with ease. So that’s why I wanted to call it Flexible, to show that I am flexible and can sing different styles of music.” … racist treatment as a white performer with a “black” voice. “I did Showtime at the Apollo… it turned from this horrific experience into one of the best nights ever. I knew what to expect, but until you’re actually out there and the audience is screaming hateful things at you because you’re white, and you have to prove yourself… it’s crazy! I just wanted to go out there and do a good show… and I ended up winning!” … his desire to work in other genres. “I always wanted to do dance, but that’s not to say I don’t want to do other things. I used to sing with blues bands when I was in Pittsburgh. And I love big power ballads and certain types of pop music. I eventually want to do all of that. But I love dance music, so it’s not like I’m settling for something!” … knowing that music was his destiny.
