Dubfire... On his initial idea for a solo album: “I had the idea of doing a concept album of 8 songs… picking 8 songs that were, for me, very influential in my musical evolution. Songs by certain groups that really helped me become who I am today, and shaped me. I still have that thought in the back of my mind!” On returning to Deep Dish: “The tracks that we released as singles [from George is On]… we’re still getting requests and people expect us to play them at every gig. When we see them singing along to every lyric, and just going bonkers whenever we drop it, it just gives us more motivation to get back into the studio while we have that momentum. It’s just a question of finding the right time.” On reflecting past work in his present music: “I just wanted to highlight a lot of my different loves. A lot of people over the years keep mentioning our Yoshitoshi compilations that they thought had a great flow. It started really slow and it built and had drops, so wanted to sort of take the listener back to that era, specifically.” On frustrations behind the scenes: “It’s kind of difficult [making an album]. There are a lot of hurdles to cross that the average person doesn’t know about, like getting clearance on certain tracks. Right now I’m trying to deal with download issues. There’s a lot of things that you initially want on the comp that can’t make it for whatever bureaucratic reason.” ![]()
